About Bohemia Ecotecture

We are concerned about social and environmental issues in architecture, design and construction and we actively design with these issues in mind.

Architecture must be responsive to human needs without sacrificing the needs of future generations by respecting our natural resources.

We are passionate about designing the building that fits you and doing this in a responsible way.

Sustainable design requires a site specific response and we approach every project on its own unique situation and requirements.

We are dedicated to working with the natural environment and local communities using traditional and innovative materials and technologies that lessen the environmental impact of building construction and use. Our work emphasizes the relationship between the architecture, the client and the site. We focus on the use of natural and non-toxic materials, passive climatic considerations and alternative construction and energy systems to create architectural spaces that nourish the soul and lift the spirit while also promoting social and environmental responsibility.

Drawings, models and three dimensional renderings are the primary tools we use to communicate the design intent from concept to construction. For example, an early schematic design may include shading studies to properly size overhangs for to control solar gain. Three dimensional perspectives allow the client to experience the exterior massing or the layout of a kitchen. Detailed framing drawings demonstrate to the builder how to use lumber more efficiently while increasing the insulation in wall cavities. Typed specifications and schedules document material selections, system installation requirements, finishes, and quality.

Following the site visit, we further explore the potential of each site by considering climatic data, topography and drainage patterns, solar angles, and other important factors. Beyond the immediate boundaries of the site, we are interested in the use of local materials, craftspeople, and vernacular forms. This contextual information gives each project a unique language and sense of place.
